Pre-Colombian jewelry dates back to around 4000 BC and was characterized by extensive use of copper and its various oxides. Copper was used in ornaments, beads and earrings in addition to weapons and battle armor. By 3000 BC, the Pre-Colombians were already using the lost-wax process for jewelry, a process which is used today in industrial processes.
Tikuna jewelry was founded by designer Patricia Acosta in 2003. Patricia holds degrees in modern language and goldsmithing from the Darío Ibarra School of México City. The studio has developed pieces by some of the region’s most respected designers, including Alfredo Barraza. What brings the collection together is a sense of Colombian history, with ancient patterns and traditional materials contributing to the unique drama of every piece.
