Fall and Winter 2011 Trends

What’s ahead in jewelry for Fall/Winter 2011

Most women have at least a few classic pieces of jewelry in their wardrobes – stand-by, conservative items you can wear with just about anything. The problem is sticking only with the classics can take the fun out of getting dressed.

Well, the jewelry trends brewing for fall and winter this year will definitely bring the fun back into jewelry. Big, bold pieces will dominate, providing a great opportunity to add a few statement pieces to your collection. The in-your-face styles and colors coming this Fall are guaranteed to get anyone out of a jewelry rut!

Big is huge.
Big colors, chunky volume and massive scale will make adding boldness to your collection easy and fun this season. Everywhere you’ll see extra-large bracelets, big shiny danglers for ears and flashy, elaborate necklaces. Start with few big square bangles – a wise investment any time – and build from there. Big chunky rings can be had for small change. And bold cuff bracelets remain sizzling hot.

Nancy’s tip: The key to wearing super-splashy jewelry? Go for contrast rather than trying to blend with your outfit.

Metal magic.
Structured metal jewelry – and we don’t mean gold and silver – will glitter on fashion runways this winter. Lightweight metal pieces are available in a wide range of colors and finishes, and of course, oversized will be the rule.Look for big embossed, hammered, engraved and gem-encrusted metal cuff bracelets everywhere this season.

Wearable ideas.
Motifs – such as botanical, animal or spiritual themes –are a great way to tailor your statement jewelry to your personality. We’re seeing fabulous motif in virtually every region we visit, from South America to the Far East. The edgiest looks mix and match elements within a motif, combining or layering pieces within a family can create a look that’s all your own.

Speaking of layers.
The layered look that emerged this Spring is still going strong. Layering assorted strands of charms, baubles and beads creates a frenzy of texture, color and even whimsy. Piles of bangle bracelets in different weights, stacked rings – the layers are everywhere. But keep in mind, the more eclectic you get with your jewelry layering, the simpler you should keep your outfit. Let your jewelry do the talking!
