An architect by training, Nada Zeineh’s approach to jewelry design is similar to her profession’s take on creating spaces: to inspire awe, there is an equal reliance on fantasy and practicality. The hand forged imprint is evident on each piece. Each earring, each necklace is impeccably tooled, and invites touch. The collections speak of long afternoons of creative zen, of being lost in a revery. Through beading, weaving and embroidery, there is a realization of a woman’s daydream of herself.
Ever present in this daydream are the influences of long-ago civilizations, with classical and various eastern traditions occupying the imagination. There is also the stamp of immutable nature. And so, bold and abstract tulips are naively cut. But they are full of complexity in their reminiscence of feminine Ottoman textiles; they awaken the wearers’ collective memories.
Great reverence is used to showcase the materials used. Be it metal or gemstones, they seem stretched to their limits, showcasing both Nada’s technical virtuosity as well as imaginative freedom. In many pieces, brass sheets are hammered so that they are as thin as paper, as light as air, and despite their volumes, barely felt on the body. They balance on the wearer, and speak precisely of the designer’s kinetic harmony.
No one piece strays far from Nada’s roots, and the geometry and modernity instilled in her by her discipline.
