Importfolio, Inc was birthed 16 years ago by Barbara Garwood out of her work and travels to Taiwan as a textile designer. She discovered the jewelry in a small obscure shop in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Barbara started in retail and then began designing for the National Geographic Society and Smithsonian gifts catalogues 11 years and 3 yrs ago, respectfully.
Barbara designs jewelry made of sterling silver with 24kt vermeil with fired enamel and genuine gemstones. The mission is to provide employment for approximately 22 women and preserving a 1000 year old art begun by the Mongolians and passed down through generations of crafts persons. We share their beautiful craftsmanship by selling to stores and individuals globally.
She’s been a designer of different products including textiles, furniture and jewelry since 1977, however the work with a group of women in a remote village in Asia has been most rewarding. There is also a feeling of great responsibility to the craft as we are working to preserve a 1000 year old art.
